Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I only get a gray box on my screen?

If you are using Windows and believe that you have downloaded a recent version of JVM, but all you see is a gray box where the applet should be, then you might not have Java plug-in enabled. (Please notice that this game may not work with the JVM from Microsoft. To check if you have the version required, or to download the lastest verion, visit Sun's Java download page).

To enable (Sun's) Java plug-in, go to Control Panel, then Java Plug-in. Depending on the Java version you have, either go to Basic tab and check Enable Java Plug-in; or go to Browser tab and check all the options.

Also, please make sure that Java is enabled in your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tools, then Internet Options. Under Advanced tab, make sure the ``Enable Java'' or ``Use Java'' option is set. If you are using Netscape/Mozilla, in the Preference dialog box, go to Advanced section, and check Enable Java.

This applet has been tested successfully (with proper options set) on a Linux box running Mozilla 1.0 with JRE 1.4, a Mac OS X box running Internet Explorer 5.2 and Mozilla 1.2 with JRE 1.3, and a Windows XP box running Internet Explorer 6 with JRE 1.4.

What languages did you use to write this game?

The game was written entirely in Java 2 and compiled using Java 2 SDK 1.4.1. This Web site was written in XHTML 1.0. And the user manual was written in LaTeX. All the coding was done in the Vim text editor on Debian GNU/Linux 3.0.
